Hospital network restores systems after week-long ransomware outage

A regional hospital network serving three states said on Monday that its electronic records system was back online, eight days after a ransomware attack forced clinicians to revert to paper charts and divert ambulances.

The network has not said whether it paid a ransom. Federal investigators have attributed the attack to a group that has targeted healthcare providers repeatedly over the past two years.

Administrators warned that reconciling paper records created during the outage would take weeks and that some laboratory results might have to be repeated.
